Your vision is one of your most important senses. However, there are many afflictions that can affect the eye. Eye disease develops over time and shows itself in many forms.

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness among those in the United States. It decreases your vision because a heavy amount of internal pressure puts stress on the optic nerve. This damages it and visual data is not taken in properly. It is hard to know if you have glaucoma because it often has not symptoms or pain. However, if you seem to be losing periphery vision, that may be the reason. Treatment involves either medicated eye drops or laser surgery.

In your eye, you have proteins that make a natural lens around your retina. It is responsible for giving you clear sight both up close and far away. When the protein clumps together, the lens is then blocked and cannot function. Cloudy, blurry vision along with light appearing to glare and colors losing their zest are a few symptoms. At first, your eyesight might be able to be improved with glasses and other aids. However, as it worsens it will get to a point where the only option is cataract surgery. They are very successful and will return your full vision.

If you are a senior citizen, your loss of sight may likely be caused by macular degeneration. It strikes most commonly in those over 65. This affliction attacks the macula part of the retina that is responsible for giving you sharp images. Wet AMD occurs when new blood vessels appear and leak fluid or blood. Dry AMD is classified by the thinning of the macular tissues and deposits of pigment it produces. AMD is incurable today, but treatments are available to alleviate symptoms.

Your sense of sight is one of your most valuable tools in life. Any problems should not be ignored. See your ophthalmologist immediately if you are experiencing any of these signs and are worried.

Understanding all there is to know about macular degeneration is not always easy. Luckily you can get everything you need right here at macular degeneration
