Last night the American People voted in the First African American President. There is a taste of hope in the air and it’s a great time to apply this to all aspects of your life.
Here is some hope and motivation:

While it is possible to eat every delight that one craves for when still young, it is also possible that one suffers from every illness when one gets old. Good nutrition during the youth preserves good health in older age. Thus, simple exercises for good health must be taken into account while it is not yet late.
Eating right is doing things right. Start the day with a king’s meal, a heavy breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as this gives the energy needed by the body. Easy weight loss would be impossible if one skips breakfasts.
When eating, chew slowly as one savors the aroma and the texture of the food. Doing such is a way of conditioning the mind that one is enjoying a great meal. In as much, it also keeps a mentality of satisfaction, thereby eliminating possibilities to crave for more.
Drink glasses of water in between meals to make the body feel fuller. It does not only aid in detoxifying, it also helps in increasing the oxygen content in one’s mind. In the process, it helps one think better and efficiently.
Keep track of the foods that are good and bad in one’s health. For instance, during desserts serve fruits and vegetables instead of sweets like cake and ice cream. Fruits and vegetables contain low calories while having great deals of nutrients for the body. Always go for fresher, greener or brighter ones like berries, broccoli’s and sweet potatoes. Their health benefits are countless. Apart from detoxifying the body, these also serve as anti-cancer sources. As much as possible avoid canned fruits or fruit juices. These contain a lot of sugar that may be bad for the health.
During a diet, shop for fish and lean meat. Fish are potential sources of omega 3-fatty acids like DHA and EPA. These are necessary to avoid the risks of cardiovascular diseases in the future while maintaining a healthy heart. Salmon, mackerel and sardines are just few of the good sources of omega fatty acids. While most are concerned in mercury contamination, experts believe that eating 2 servings per week outweighs the risks.
Bones remain as the structural framework of the body that are given lesser importance. A healthy diet would include a rich source of calcium to prevent brittle bones when one gets older. Eat dairy products as well as green leafy vegetables as these remain good sources of calcium. Just keep in mind to avoid full-fat dairy products, especially those treated with rBST or bovine growth hormone. Rather, pick non-fat or low fat ones. Depending on conditions, it will be necessary to choose lactose-free milk for lactose-intolerant individuals.
Salt and sugar must not also be taken for granted. Basically, it is not a crime to eat sweets, just keep it in minimum and moderation. For instance, when dining out, avoid soft drinks especially sugar-free sodas. Recent studies showed that the artificial sugar like aspartame substituted for regular ones contain high degree of sweetness and so this leads to over-indulging and craving for foods, a very good venue for gaining weight.
Processed foods like canned sausages contain relatively high sodium content. The recommended daily allowance per day is only 2300 mg, which is equivalent to one teaspoon of salt. Exceeding this amount might lead to kidney problems.
Keeping oneself healthy might be very difficult, especially when one’s favourite foods are cut off. But the rewards will surely outweigh future problems.
