			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One of my personal exercises of choice is running. I sometimes like to go out for a nice long run and sort out all the thoughts in my head, not worrying about speed, distance or even direction. However sometimes this stuff is very important.</p>
<p>I have often come back from a run wondering, <strong>just how far did I run?</strong></p>
<p>If you look around for software to help plan your exercise route, you will see it can be very expensive. But there is no need to purchase it.</p>
<p>You can easily find out and plan routes for running, cycling, walking or anything that you want to find out distance for, by using Google Earth. And it is completely free.</p>
<p>I created a quick video to show you roughly how it works.</p>

<p>As you can see it is very easy and highly detailed. You can choose your distance measurement and also in some areas, see 3D buildings and terrain elevation.</p>
<p>I planned my run today and was going to run 4 miles. When I was out running, I decided to go on a little longer so I checked out the route when I got home. I ran just over 5 miles and I was grateful that I could find out so easily.</p>
<p>With this distance data you can work out a lot more things for your running training schedule.</p>
<p><strong>For example: How long does it take to run a mile?</strong></p>
<p>When you run just take a stop watch and time yourself. This data and the distance you got from Google Earth can be easily converted to let you know.</p>
<p><strong><em>e.g. 2.12 miles in 26:30 minutes (26.5/2.12) means that you ran a mile in 12.5 minutes a mile.</em></strong></p>
<p><strong>How many Calories did I burn?</strong></p>
<p>Foe every 100lbs you burn aprox 80 calories a mile, whilst running.</p>
<p>So I am 192lbs, that equals approx 153 calories per mile.<br />
Simply multiply your calories by your mileage.</p>
<p>The applications of this simple tool are endless. It will work for any exercise that you will be doing outside and as far as I am aware is very accurate.</p>

<p>They say that <strong>Breakfast is the most important meal of the day</strong>, everyone is aware of this but does everyone know why?</p>
<p>This short article looks at some of the reasons <em>why breakfast is important</em>.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m sure you have all sjipped breakfast, I know I have and I know, without scientific backup, that it leads into a day of me feeling groggy and searching for high fat / high sugar snacks to quell the impending burn out.</p>
<p>Before taking a car on a long journey it is always recommended to fill up the tank. Running a car low on fuel means that you end up using the remaining fuel less efficiently and running the risk of running out of energy, crashing and ruining your engine. Well&#8230; you can say the same for our bodies. Quite simpley put breakfast refuels us for the day ahead.</p>
<p>Equally as important as eating breakfast is making sure that the quality and quantity of your breakfast is just right.</p>
<p>An average body burns between 2500-3500 calories a day so you don&#8217;t want to have a full English breakfast, use up your daily calorie limit and fill your body with sleep inducing fat.</p>
<p>I think finding a good solid 300-500 calorie breakfast containing high levels of fibre, protein and a little carbohydrates will set anyone up good for the day. I&#8217;ll give some breakfast ideas at the end of the post but now&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>The Reasons why you should eat breakfast&#8230;</strong></p>
<p>A recent study, of over 2000 boys and girls over 5 years, published in March concluded that breakfast was<img class="alignright" style="float: right; margin: 10px;" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c1/Spoonful_of_cereal.jpg/800px-Spoonful_of_cereal.jpg" alt="corn flakes" width="275" height="180" /> the most important meal. It showed in adolescents that eating breakfast more often led to a lower Body Mass Index (Basically, less body fat). <p>When you wake up, your energy and blood sugar is low. Your body has been using energy throughout the day before and the night to repair and get itself ready for the next day. If you eat a healthy breakfast you can give yourself a good level of blood sugar through until lunch, meaning that you may actually be cheerful when you arrive at work. <p>This is more of a personal reason but I think many will benefit. Taking the time to eat breakfast in the morning gives your head time to arrange itself for the day. Coupled with the energy being supplied form the food and a little relaxation before the day starts, it should add to your daily mental wellbeing.</p>
<p><strong>Breakfast Suggestions:</strong></p>
<p>It&#8217;s important that your breakfast is healthy and supplied you with decent energy for the day.  You should always try and make sure that you get some fiber, protein and a little carbohydrate and even fat to help sustain throughout the day. These are a few of my personal choices.</p>
<ol>
<li>A regular bowl of cereal with fortified 2% milk, 1 slice of wholemeal toast and thinly spread peanut butter, a glass of orange juice and a piece of fruit.</li>
<li>A bowl of oatmeal, with added raisins, cranberries and a little cinnamon. A glass of Pineapple Juice and a piece of fruit.</li>
<li>A small bowl of low fat / low sugar natural yogurt with fresh berries, a glass of apple juice, a piece of wholemeal toast lightly spread with low fat cream cheese, and as always a piece of fruit.</li>
</ol>
<p>It is also recommended that you have a healthy snack during mid morning. A banana and a small handful of unsalted nuts is perfect.</p>

<p>If you wake up feeling a little dazed, confused and upset with yourself then you probably drunk too much last night! The ultimate fact is that you have done something very bad to your body and full recovery is rarely achievable with a quick fix. However there are a few things that you could try to ease your pain.</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Drink water, and lot&#8217;s of it!</strong><br />
This is the most obvious tip but some people think there is an art to this. When you get home, however much alcohol you have drank, drink an equal amount of water. Then drink some more at 5 in the morning when you wake up to pee! In fact just keep sipping water for the whole of the next day!</li>
<li><strong>Get some more sleep</strong><br />
your body needs to repair itself. Sleep is the most productive time for the body to repair itself. If you are supposed to be going to work, you may be better off calling in sick.</li>
<li><strong>Drink a bottle of sports energy drink, such as Powerade, with a dose of pain killers(i.e Tylenol)</strong><br />
A Pharmacist gave me this rememdy when I stumbled into the pharmacy one morning and begged for help. It worked as best as could be expected and I was able to continue my day. Alternatively you can try mixing half fresh orange juice / half water and a teaspoon of of salt into a glass. Your body needs to replenish salt and vitamins lost from the evening before plus the pain killer will hide the headache.</li>
<li><strong>Eat a healthy but full breakfast</strong><br />
Sapped of energy you are probably craving a large fried breakfast. Resist the urge but take some note. Have a full breakfast maybe some granola with milk, a few slices of whole wheat toast and lots of fruit. You will really appreciate it.</li>
<li><strong>If you really need to be throw up, don&#8217;t hold it in!</strong><br />
Your body is obviously telling you something. Just go to the bathroom, wallow in self pity and let it all out. You don&#8217;t need it in you and it will probably be mostly the devils water from the night before.</li>
<li><strong>Take Emergen-C or something similar</strong><br />
You can buy these little vitamin shots in Powder form. Just mix it up with a glass of cold water and drink it up. You lose a lot of B Vitamins when you drink so this will replace them and you 1000mg of trusty vitamin C.</li>
<li><strong>Keep eating fruit, especially bananas</strong><br />
You probably crave sugar, well you are in luck. Fruit is full of it and it is slow releasing to help bring your body back up to full energy. Bananas are one of the best as they are also high in magnesium which helps with the headache and have a natural antacid to help calm your stomach.</li>
</ol>
